Red Lips for Valentines Day

Red - We all know this is the must have lip colour on Valentines Day but as most of us know it may not seem like the right colour to go with every girls skin tone, face shape and many other leading factors.

Here at Bliss we would like to show you how anyone can pull off red lipstick. - Just in time for Valentines Day.

There are 4 key factors when applying red lipstick:
  • Exfoliate
  • Moisturise
  • Prime
  • Application

Step 1 Preparation

Firstly start by exfoliating the area with a lip scrub or a great trick of the trade; use an old toothbrush with vaseline and blot away the excess. Once you have completed the exfoliating and moisturising process apply a lip primer, if you do not own a primer then blend a thin layer of your foundation across on to your lips and this should work fine.

Step 2 Find Your Shade

Not everyone can be a fan of bright red lipstick but not to worry as there are tones of different shades, from pink reds to rose, dramatic to deep there is a colour to suit everyone.

Our professional recommendation  is to pick a colour which matches your skin tone and you can go wrong. Cool/ blue shade should be word my paler skin tones and warm/ orange reds should be worn by olive/ darker skins.

Though these are the recommendations by ourselves cool tones have been worn by all skin types as they can be seen as a more formal/ classy colour. The only downfall to cooler reds is that the tone can make teeth appear less white.

Step 3 The Rest of Your Makeup

When wearing red lipstick of any shade or colour you want to keep the rest of your makeup subtle and classic to achieve the 'in look'. Simple eye makeup such as liquid liner and a little mascara can go a long way. Keep your foundation nude with a hint of blush.

Step 4 The Application

Once you have finished the preparation and picked the perfect shade next comes the application. Start by using pencil lip liner and drawing a fine line around the edges of your lips, once you have completed the outline fill in the lips as a base for the lipstick (this will also act as a primer). Next apply your lipstick in a light swift movement.

Tips

  • Putting either your finger or thumb in between your lips, pressing your lips together and pulling it out will remove any unwanted lipstick that may have transferred onto your teeth.
  • Lip Stains are an excellent / no fuss piece of makeup that are perfect for you 'on the go'girls.
  • A excellent tip to stop lipstick from fading is to blot the layer with a tissue and re apply.
  • Applying transparent loose powder when re-applying keeps the lips looking matte and helps the lipstick last longer.
  • For a sharp, dramatic, high fashion, on trend lip use

Dont forget confidence is key when wearing red. Just keep smiling Bliss beauties.
